omc 4.3 L v6

I have a 4.3 liter 1986 v6 sterndrive and i just rebuilt the carb. Set the float level and drop to factory specs and did everything by the book. Now the engine runs worse at idle - real rough. It clears some when i remove the vacume line off the base of the carb. Any ideas on what is going on?

Hi Rob,<br />Sounds like you are running rich. Have you adjusted the low speed jet or jets at the base of the carb.?

I had a mechanic adj the jets when he replaced the upper gear in the outdrive after i rebuilt the carb. he said that he had to run it rich to get it to run. He could not figure out what else is going on. this was at a reliable shop.

That vacume line is actually a fuel pump leak line that diverts fuel from a leaking fuel pump into the mani rather than leaking into the bilge.Has it got fuel in it?
