Ok, got the new points, condenser, rotor and cap on, gapped points to .019 like the manuel says, when i give gas it just spits and sputters and dies, sometimes it does go. When i did go, it seemed to do fine but sometimes engine would rev high and we would slow down, like the outdrive was slipping, (kinda like a clutch on a car) by the way, thanks dave for all your help with towing the boat around the lake.

clean the carb.... 2 or 4 barrel?
Find out what the deal is with the outdrive... Check the adjustments.. Something isn't right...

Thanks for the reply, i just read that theres an additional fuel filter on the carb. Im just looking for the part number so i can replace it. Its a holley 2300 2 barrel. As far as the outdrive, which adjustments? When i installed the engine i did the alignment check and it was perfect. Thanks again

Take it off.. Show it to your NAPA fella...

I bet if you pull that front bowl off that carb you are going to find rusty funk under there

Re: omc 4.3 sounds like its missing

So i ordered a filter, bought a timing light, went to time it and it was way off the chart, i timed it to 6 degrees i think is what it called for and wow, what a difference. Still hesitates every once in a while so i think a carb rebuild is still in my future, but shes running. Now i have time to wetsand, buff and wax. Gonna take it to silverwood lake in 2 weeks and see what shes made of. Thanks for everyones help.y

You should gap the points with a dwell meter. .019 is just to get her to start. In my case (4.3 OMC 1989) the gap had to be closed to around .014 to get higher rpms out of it. As to the slipping and reving high, is there a noticable slowing or lack of acelerating of the boat itself? You may want to add a hydrofoil to the outdrive. The cavitation plate may be sitting too high off the back of the transom to force enough water into the prop.

As to the fuel filter in the carb, that can cause the problems you described as well if it's clogged.
