Re: OMC 4.3 v6 1989 cobra Electronic?
first choice for electronic conversion would be the Delco EST set up wired like the merc alphas, dry coil and no movable advance weights.
second choice would be the prestolite BID system, draw back is an oil filled coil and a mechanical advance system.
nice thing about the EST is the kits are cheap, if you want used most EFI merc and volvos used it and you will only need the correct module for a carbed motor to insure correct advance.
whatever you use the distributor body MUST be marine rated, automotive versions are not vented correctly. after that the correct module needs to be used and ign advance verified, after that pick-up coil, cap, rotor, coil and wires are the same part numbers as the local auto parts store.
reliability and service part avalibility is why I like the EST, that and its incredibly simple.
