my boat almost sank a few weekends ago at the lake (freshwater) and the problem that caused that was solved, but prior to that mishap, this boat ran perfect fired easily and purred like a kitten i came home from the lake and let it sit for a week and then fixed the leaky transom which caused the leak i then took it to the water and floated it on the trailer to see if i got the leaks fixed properly and it was bone dry but i figured ill start it while im sitting here and see how it runs just for good measures well it wouldnt start after crankiing it for a few minutes, so i got it home, and put some gas down the carb and it fired right up but it will only run above 1000 rpm now ,as soon as i drop it back to neutral it dies i have replaced the fuel/water seperator & carb filter and taken the carb apart and soaked it in fuel and blown it out and i also checked the spark plugs they are all golden brwn. and dry as can be, no water in engine or oil, but the one thing i find strange is if i put my hand ovr the throats of carb where the choke restrictor plate is it will speed up a few 100 rpm and i dont even have to have my hand all the way on the carb just a few inches away when i go to put my hand there and you can hear it speed up or if i manually close the choke up to almost all the way closed it will run better also, all the way closed and it dies, like it should ( the vacum reading i took while idleing at 1000 rpm was 20# + AND climbed as i accelerated} , the accelerator pump seems to be working well with motor either running or off, ive checked the esa and its working fine. could the ballast resistor have gotten wet and be causing this it rides low on the motor and i know it got submerged but it looks to be hermetically sealed also mechanic at local marina says they either work or don,t but i read alot of talk about guys bypassing these with a jumper to the coil to check them, could it be shorting also checked the ignition Distributor and everything seems good and dry ,points, cap rotor, etc. the tank rides under the bow and was,nt exposed to water during our near sinking trip the engine wasnt submerged but it was about up to the side of the freeze plugs when i got on it to get on step the angle of the bow brought alot of water to the back until we got planed out ,the boat ran good up to the point of getting it on the trailer and out of the lake other than the 75+ gallons or so of water that drained out once we got it on the launch ramp what could have caused it to do this after it was running fairly well and then it sat for a week the way it,s acting leads me to believe its got a vacum leak in or around the carb or did something get wet and cause this after it sat for that week any ideas here? i am goin to go check the fuel pump now and see what sort of volume and pressure its got once i get the t fitting to tap into the fuel line any ideas here greatly appreciated, sure would like to get it goin for the labor day weekend got other family & friends comin with there boats too from out of town, to go boatin ,and this is supposed to be the last shin dig for summer, anyhow im thinkin its something simple here just not so obvious to me , anybody?? . thanks bfd72
