Re: OMC 460 7.5L needs timing info

Ken,

I hope it turns out ok for you. If you can buy a set of (new) manifolds for $400 each you should get them.

Shorts Marine told me last year that they sold a set in JAN of 2005 for $600 each and it took them a year to get them(ordered in 2004)!

I don't know why they're not being made other than he told me that the engine combo was only made for 3 years and discontinued. THere wasn't enough market for an aftermarket co like BARR/OSCO to make them and the original (defunct) company still held the patents........although I don't know how that works since patents usually die in a fixed time.

The other sticking point is the coupler. I had mine side by side with the Bravo and it appears to me that you could take a 460 flywheel to to any good machine shop and have them drill it to accept a Bravo coupler......The bravo coupler bolts to a CHev flywheel much like a clutch pressure plate....... You could then use a Bravo yoke (which appeared to be the same as the King Cobra yoke)

Once you get the manifold and coupler problem solved the other stuff is "doable" for a while.

I was almost going to try this when the 454/Bravo III showed up and I decided that I would be better off to take the good deal and here I am!! (It was DonS that pushed me over the edge!! (tnx, Don!)

Anyway good luck with that thing. Don't forget to check the riser/elbows carefully.

Rick,
I just re-checked with the marine place and they were wrong. They didn't have the exhaust manifolds. I have removed the oil out of the pan and it was filled with water. So now I am thinking head gasket. Any other thoughts?
