omc 5.0 engine won't start

hi, previous post about carb solved. rebuilt again set float level higher bolted on today and engine started and idled perfectly. ran for about 10 minutes , shut down, started right up again. went in ate dinner, came back out tried to start and now engine turns but doesn't start....any ideas???????

am getting gas, see it come out when hit accelerator pump, couldn't check for spark because was just me and couldn't crank engine and check for spark at same time. The coil is brand new and i have a petronix kit installed, could i have burned out either the petronix unit or the coil, I had ignition key to on position for about 20 seconds to check voltage on back of instrument panel.....can they be damaged in that amount of time?

boat is 21' galaxy 1985 with 5.0 liter 305 OMC with 800 series stringer drive; have prestolite distributor

got boat to start....coil wire was slipping off and just needed good connection...now i'm trying to get this timing down right..manual says timing should be at 13deg BTDC and at around 500-600 rpm...should this be done in gear or in neutral?

Neutral at idle...<br /><br />("According to SELOC manual", ignition timing 10 degrees BTDC at 550-650 rpm)

Gerryp<br />Time it in neutral 500-600 rpms 185, 200, 230hp 13 degrees btdc, 260hp 10 degrees btdc. This from 1980 OMC factory manual.
