The above photo is a drawing of a Ball Gear Assembly from a 75 OMC 225HP. The Bearing Retainer has marked on the outside 21/17. I suspect that is a gear ratio. That gear ratio did not start showing up until 1982 or so. I believe the gear ratio for this drive is typically 21/16. It appears that the part# for this Gear Retainer is used in numerous newer models. I would really like to know what my gear ratio is. My question is it worth the trouble of removing the Gear Case Cap and what ever else to count the gear teeth? Am I opening up a can of worms here just for curiousity sakes since the drive works quite well with whatever gear ratio is installed? Looking for guidance
