OMC 800 Impeller question....

Have the boot off the back. Was wondering, can I raise the drive full tilt and remove the lower from the upper and move it aside so I can change the impeller? I looked and it looks like I have enough slack in the shift cable to disconnect the lower drive and move it over enough to get to the pump without disconnected it. Any thoughts? After reading the manual, I really do not want to mess with the shift cable. I heard it is no big deal to disconnect from the engine but the manual makes it sound like a nightmare.

Taking the cable off is easy. just take your time. There are only 2 cables to deal with. Follow the manual, get a digital camera and take pictures. That will help.
But first ! Remove the battery cables from the batteries. This will keep you from grounding across something and burning up your $300.00 cable.
You really want to pull the drive off.It makes it alot easier to do.
I used WD40 where the cable goes in to the inter. housing to help pull it out
without damage.
Just a thought you might ask KAGEE for more info.
Good luck

I can have the cables undone, and the drive off in 20 minutes.
5 of those minutes are taking the batteries out.

OK Kagee, I totally trust your judgement. Tomorrow it comes off and if I need any help on the reinstall I hope you're here to help. Time to be a man! Unhook the shift cable!!!
