After installing a new transom bracket shift cable exactly as described, how does one know for sure the gears are fully engaged?

Re: Omc 800, is forward/reverse fully engaged?

Good question.. I would like to know too.. Because it shifts in to forward and goes forward, and shifts in to reverse and goes in reverse, and it shifts in to neutral from both - but it is still in the back of my mind, that if not done correctly, it is ruining the gears...

And, the clickity noise from neutral to either F/R if done slow is "supposed" to be normal ( I do shift it fast)

So how do you know if it's right?

I do know that you shouldn't shift "slowly"..but you also don't slam it into gear either. I nice smooth shift with constant pressure and authority. If that makes sense.
