Re: OMC 800 OEM Manual

there is no OMC 800 OEM Manual per se. Each omc manual covers a particular year and engine model, the drive is also covered in the book. Each year there was a dealer update manual that covered all models of that particular year.

Well, that's not exactly a straight forward issue.

I just bought this boat.
It's my first boat, so I'm clueless.
It's a charity auction boat so it needs a fair amount of work.
What I know so far...
The original engine was 225hp.
The owner put in a remanufactured marine chevy 350 @ 270 hp.
The upper and lower halfs of the stern drive were replaced at different times.
The boat is a '78 Mark Twain 220c.

I thought there would be a manual similar to chilton's that covered the omc outdrive for a number of years, but I guess that's not the case. So I assume I should look for a '78 Twain manual?

I read on another site that seloc and clymer manuals were somewhat lacking. Is that the opinion of folks here as well?

Thanks for any input.

Ok you might have a problem, would you please post a pic of the drive.

Motor is another story, pic of that as well, with any numbers you may see there will be numbers thank you.

Reason i said you might have a problem is i think you may have a electric shift drive.

Re: OMC 800 OEM Manual

I'll post pics asap. It's been snowing like the dickens the last two days , so as soon as the weather breaks, I'll get the canmera out and try and get as many numbers, (engine, carb. outdrive etc.,) as possible. Thanks.

Re: OMC 800 OEM Manual

was it item number 360109593620?
looks like a hydromech drive. I would recommend manual
item number 310103584705

however, a side-on pic of the drive would definitely help ID it as hydro or full mechanical shift.

Re: OMC 800 OEM Manual

1978 was the first year of the hydro-mechanical, drive. That is a rarest, and hardest to find parts for.

But a lot of times they installed a year before drive, making it a electric shift.

Still a tough time to find parts for but not as hard.

There is a guy on e-bay that has the original manual available, but you will have to know what ya got.

The motor is another story.

Full mechanical shift didn't happen till '83.

Thats why we need pics and on the starboard side of the drive half way up is a plate with the numbers, might be painted over look for it.

What make motor is it merc or omc ? Will say on the valve covers, numbers are on the starboard side you might have to scratch off the paint.

Re: OMC 800 OEM Manual

Okay folks,
For anyone who may be interested and willing to help...... We had a reasonably nice day today and since I had to remove the water from the tarp anyway, I pulled it back, took some pictures and got a couple numbers...The link to the photos is here http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff195/lonewolf_one/ In regards to the numbers.... I got this number off the stern drive. 5.0 on top and below that DRR8SU21641 The carb had this number 62266. The number on the intake I think is legible in the photo. Any input would be apppreciated. Thanks.

Re: OMC 800 OEM Manual

a few years ago I had this same power package in a 1981 22 ft campion. a 305 motor ,800 stringer leg. I rebuilt the top end of the leg and the driveshaft assy and the tilt mechanizim all using a seloc manual with no problems at all. the proper carb # is printed verticaly behind the linkage and will start with 70 or 170. good luck
