Re: omc 800 series uppers

ahhhhaaaa.....its one in the morning and i'm in the garage working on this POS........i did do a vacuum test after my last post (went an bought a vacuum tester), it would not hold vacuum at all, and with muffs on and water on...it would suck water.....so bad seal right??? well i dissassembled impeller assembly only to find that the jacka++ that sealed these for me didnt seat the two seals deep enough into housing, the upper lip of top seal was just touching end of pinion gear shaft....i'm sure thats the problem with other upper as well...I HOPE!!! seal kits should be here thursday and i hope all goes well....at any rate, once fixed, i'm getting rid of this boat....i love this boat ('85 searay 255 amberjack), but I cant afford to keep pouring money into these junk drives and I wont own something i cant trust. Anyway, thanks for all your advice and I'll keep ya posted.

If that's the issue, why not trust the drive and not whoever did the work on it?

(I'm a stringer owner :) )

Dukesfin, I do'nt trust either....I do alot of fishing...sometimes 30 miles out into Lake Michigan, and I like to run to Ludington, MI (6 hour boat ride) to fish, and vacation...after my experiences and what i've read here, I would rather buy something with mercruiser drives....I just dont trust these drives for those distances..and i'm sure that this thing will be harder to get rid of because of these drives......but, i will be more than happy to sell it to you. lol

Ummm... well... No thanks! (I say that as I laugh). If I could, I'd rebuild my transom, put a bracket on my boat and drop a 200 horse outboard, but I'm "stuck" with my white anchor! I choose to look at each repair I do. If I look at all the $$ as a whole, I'd just get upset!
