Re: OMC 800 Stringer Tilt clutch grease?
When I took mine apart I was surprise to see just how much water was in there, so I went straight grease. I'll let you know if straight grease fails me, but I figure there's enough oil soaked into the clutch discs to operate properly. I will say, make sure you either have the gasket for the housing cover or plan on making one. I went the straight silicone/gasket maker route first and the bronze gear in the case bound up, preventing the tilt from operating. Seems the .020" gasket stands the cover off enough to prevent any binding. Also, loosening the allen bolt in the end makes it very easy to put the clutch assembly back together if you take it apart...I found this out the hard way as mine was so gunked up I couldn't tell there was a bolt in there....
