OMC Bumbs in Gear HELP

I have a 1993 5.0L OMC Cobra. I will shift into forward and while watching the shift assist switch and shift cable I can see the cable and switch jump slightly and that is when i feel the slight bump. Is this a gearset problem or just an adjustment issue? PLEASE HELP
