I'm looking into buying a Sunray from 1986. It has a 3.0 l 140 hp Omc Cobra. I've read mixed reviews on this motor but I have not been able to find any info on fuel economy or how well it trolls at slow speed. Is this a four stroke? Any info would help. The boat is a 17' bow rider.

Nearly all I/O motors are 4-cycle motors. At least 99.999% are

The 3.0 is the base model motor for I/O. Its ok on fuel. If you want economy in a boat, get something with sails or oars.

I would stay away from any boat with OMC or Yamaha drives. OMC went out of business 20 years ago

86 as the first year for the Cobra.
The motor is one of the best.
The drive isn't.
Buy Mercruiser or Volvo.

I have this exact same boat and motor and it runs great. You can still get all the parts and service for the motor, although I did put electronic ignition in last year. Fuel economy is great.

I like Cobras but I do have 2 different shops that will still work on them. I did teach myself how to set up the shift cable a couple of years ago.
