OK,
I posted here a week ago bout my shift cable, ended up the end of it on the motor side had come un screwed and was kinking at the sheath.

new question.
On Saturday morning I went to check the fluid levels and noticed that my exhaust hose was dry rotted and split all the way around. Then when I checked the dipsitck on the top, I found that my gear oil was milky gray! The level was at the bottom of the stick.
What should I do at this point?
Also, were can I get an electonic version of the manuals? The OMC is on the back of a 87 Bayliner ..

Thanks
Joel

There aren't any online manuals for OMC since they are out of business. you will need to check e-bay for that.

Are you talking about the exhaust bellows? It has splits in the bottom, but not all the way around. If yours is split all over I would imagine the u-joint bellows is bad as well. You will need to pull the outdrive, and you'll need a manual first.

The drive oil can be a lot of different colors. You need to drain it and check the drain plug magnet for metal shavings. That will help you to see if there's anything wrong with the oil or the gears.

Wrongo on the manuels, I called and got an original for my 1988 Bayliner, 5.0L OMC set up. They didn't have electronic but I got the real deal, not a reprint nor an aftermarket. You must have the serial number of the motor when you call. Here is a link but call, the website is hard to navigate. By the way they offered service manual, parts manual and owners manuals. Bayliner will send you the owners manual for the boat for free! Just call them at the Washington corporate headquarters and ask for customer service. Not much use but at least you'll have it.

I just meant online manuals weren't available. Thanks for the link to the originals.
