Hi,

I have a Monterey 190 C with an engine: 1989 Stern Drive 4.3 [ 262APRMED]. V6, 4.3 l and a stern drive with MOD NO: 985685, ser NO: TO674471.
There is a number under (inside) the upper unit of the stern drive 2394 R.
Here is a link to the drawing https://www.crowleymarine.com/johnson-evinrude/parts/55616.cfm?mdl=EJQCPM

These part are replaced and differs from the drawing

0333592
THRUST BUSHING

0387157
BUSHING ASSEMBLY., PROPELLER

0313926
SLEEVE, BUSHING

The reverse gear has a plate inside (forward washer) and the number on back of the reverse gear is 0720 A.

My question is regarding the placing of the 0321174, RETAINER PLATE, BEARING HOUSING.

When I opened the lower housing (gear housing) the retainier plate was between the 0321171
RETAINING RING. According to the drawing it should be placed after the second clip/retaining ring. The problem is that the retainer plate is too tick. I have 2 options 1. Place the retainer ring between them or grind it a little bit to make place for the retaining ring. Anyone with any solutions please help me :)

Best Regards from Sweden

The retainer plate goes in BEFORE the 2 rings 321171 are installed.----I know this and the parts book shows it for regular rotation.

Thank you for the help. Does it mean that the LOWER GEARCASE - STANDARD (R.H.) ROTATION diagram, I’m using is wrong? Do I have a regular rotation stern drive and the stern drive is not the original one?

You should not have to grind or modify the retainer plate 321174.-----The retainer plate goes in BEFORE the 2 snap rings go in.

I normally put the flat side to go up against the big retaining ring.

So if I understand you correctly the flat side is facing you?
