Greetings. This is my first post, but I've been reading almost daily for the last year or so. This site has been THE key source of information throughout my project.
This little project has consisted of completely gutting my boat and replacing the stringers, floor, and motor mounts. The boat is a 1988 VIP Vixen with a GM305 and an OMC Cobra drive.

But on to the problem at hand...

I have reinstalled my engine on new motor mounts, and I have purchased the alignment tool. The thing that scares me is, the alignment tool slides into the coupler effortlessly, and leaves even grease marks on the tool. This is without any adjustment to the engine, which has been removed and installed on new engine mounts.
This scares me a little bit because everything I've read indicates the this is a VERY precise adjustment. Am I missing something?

One more question. How do I know that the engine is aligned properly to the drive shaft bellows? Is this critical?

I am a little apprehesive about installing the drive until I'm confident that the alignment is done correctly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ray
