Hello, I have a 1992 Chris Craft with a 5.7 OMC. I noticed some stains on the lowest portion of the port side exhaust just before it enters the stern drive. I could see that water was weeping in from the bottom of the lowest rubber coupling which I guess is one of the two ways to allow the engine to torque and vibrate. After I pulled the boat I discovered that one of the worm clamps was slipping and I thought.. that's it fixed with a new one. I then put the boat back in to discover the water now running in from the same spot. I pulled the boat again and left it to the marina to look at but now I am feeling like I can tackle the job myself if it is as simple as a stressed or distorted boot. So at last to my question(s).....
Is this part failing normal with age ?
Should I replace both sides by default ?
Are there any tips for doing this job ?

Guess I'm still kinda nervous as the wrong move could make a whole difference to my summer boating !

Thanks for any advice

Re: OMC Cobra Exhaust

I changed out my exhaust system including boots and it wasn't too hard (compared to this damn out drive I'm working on now!) Be sure to double clamp the hoses.

BTW, how's your exhaust manifolds and risers? Don't make the same mistake as me - inspect and replace. Mine failed when I was in a nice lake - not 50 miles off shore.
