My brother in law is taking my boat tonight and I need to make sure everything is working ok so I kinda need help quick. The boat is a 1989 Four Winns 180 Horizon w/ OMC Cobra 4.3.

First off I had my engine rebuilt and I took apart the outdrive to inspect it. All was good with the outdrive so I aligned the engine and installed the outdrive. I filled with oil (the manual says 64oz) from the middle plug. After I ran the engine for 4 hours on the water I checked the oil and it was not milkey but just really bubbly. Is this ok. Should I change the oil again? Exactly how should I change the oil? The manual says to leave the dip stick in the top is that correct?

Second exactly how do i adjust the throttle cable

Third the engine is hard to start but when running will stay running, but when we go from a complete stop to full throttle the engine bogs down and dies. I was thinking the EAS so I am going to check that but is there anything else that it might be. also how do i adjust the shift cable to make sure thats not what is causing problems with the ESA? When I took the boat apart the cable above the shift cable was in the bottom of the angled slot but now after the instructions from hastings.org its more towards the top.
thanks

you really need a service manual you have questions posted all over the place about way to many different things to try and fix at the same time

you have to SLOW down and go through them ONE at a time because the basic things like a good tune up could be causeing many of your problems

tommays

just really bubbly.
Some airation is normal, foam is not. If you used the recomended oil its ok.
exactly how do i adjust the throttle cable
By turning the trunion on the cable. Like tommays says you really need the manual to do this one. Is the throttle lever on the carb against the idle stop screw when your in neutral? If so it should be fine.
I was thinking the EAS so I am going to check that
ESA is easy to check, unplug it. If you still bog and stall its not the ESA. Sounds like carb to me, accelerator pump.

Re: OMC Cobra NEED HELP TODAY

i have a manual and it doesn't like to help much plus its a clymer and it was way wrong with adjusting valvs and the engine wouldn't start the first time and it cost me about 5 hours of work. i am posting so many things because i am trying to get as much fixed before the boat is gone.

You don't need mechanical advice. You need to have you're head examined for letting your brother in law use your boat. Brothers in law are notorious for wrecking things. :p

the only reason i am letting him take it is because i know he can be trusted "Financially" to fix anything broken.
