I have a OMC #OBF4A. For some reason I have lost the lowest speed setting. The odd part is that The directional indicator light still comes on for this speed but no motor. All other speeds work but on the other speeds the directional indicator lgiht doesn't work. Anyone ever have this problem. I took the rotary switch apart & lookind inside. It appeared to be ok. Nothing broken.
I was going to go ahead & buy a switch but if that is not the problem I don't want to waste the money. Any ideas?

It could be your relay, a friend lost all but his high speed, we replaced the relay with one I had in a parts drawer and he had all his speeds back. Don't know if this will solve your problem or not, but a relay is a cheap fix if it is the problem.

What do you mean by relay? The on/off switch or the rotary switch? Or something else I don't know about?

Re: OMC Cobra OBF4A lost low speed

Sorry about the relay post, my friends motor was a motoguide hand control and in the head was a relay used to switch the high draw current for each speed. I looked at my manual for OMC motors and they do not use a relay for switching. my manual lists the BF4 as a 12/24 volt foot controlled unit. It looks like the only possible candidate for your loss of low speed is the speed control switch as you thought. I have the service manual that covers all the OMC models built in the late 90's and would be more than happy to send copy's of and diagrams that you might find helpful. Have you tried metering the switch to see if it has continuity on all output terminals, that should tell if it is the switch. Sorry about the relay comment, don't know where my brain was yesterday.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, had to go away for a week. I have all the pages you should need copied but they total about 8 to 9 Megs. If you could PM me with your Email address I will send them out as attachments over several Emails to keep the total size down.

I had the same thing happen to me. I bought a new switch put it on and still had the problem. Upon further investigation I found a broken wire caused by the gear that turns the directional indicator. I spliced the wire back together and problem was fixed. Total cost 25 cents. (not including the $10 rotary switch I didn't need)
