I have a 19' Bayliner Capri Cuddy with a 5.0 Liter, V8 OMC cobra engine and Cobra outdrive. I can supply model numbers if necessary. The boat if from 1988 or 1989. Being my first year with this boat, I would like to know how to remove the outdrive to grease the gimbal bearing and universal joints. I have the 'owners-operator's manual and will be buying 2 different service manuals, one from West Marine and one from ebay. I was told by a helpful poster from another forum to simply lower the outdrive, remove the 6 nuts, and back the drive off. I was planning to leave the drive off until spring, storing it in my shop (heated). This also gives me enough time to find an alignment bar for the reinstallment in spring. My manual tells me to have the dealer remove the outdrive and realign the engine (if necessary). Is this something I can do myself, with a few helpers? Can I change the oil in the outdrive before removal? Can anyone post specific detailed instructions on how I might remove the out drive for winter??
