OMC Cobra stalls under load

I have a 1989 OMC Cobra engine and it starts and runs fine until I put it in gear, in the water, under load. I can put it in gear while it's out of the water and it turns the prop and runs great, however as soon as it is put under a load, the engine bogs down and stalls. I thought it might be the carb but it runs great out of the water. The problem goes away once the engine has been running for a while. Could control cabling cause this type of a problem?

Not Outboard, Not Chrysler, Not Force.

Must be an I/O topic.

I have a 96 alpha 1 and it does the same thing. I found that if your oil fill bottle switch is not making and or temp is grounding the boat will run up to about 2600-2800 rpm and then bog and shut-off.

On your 89 cobra you don't have an outdrive fill bottle.

You don't give a motor to apply this to, but I'd suggest looking in the fuel supply direction first. In particular the choke. You say after it warms up all seems fine.

Load and no load preformance are totally different. Don't **** with cables until you isolate REAL possibilities.
