Would like to replace my OMC Cobra Transom Seal myself. It is my understanding I must remove the outdrive and the gimbal housing in order to get to the seal. I found a video on how to remove an OMC outdrive, but am unable to find instruction on how to remove the gimbal housing in order to get to the transom seal, and ultimately replace the transom seal. Would highly appreciate some help.

first and foremost. welcome aboard

next - why do you think you need to change the transom seal? if you have water coming in, most likely your transom is rotten and the wood inside has shrunk when it dried.

usually the only time a transom seal is replace is when you pull the transom sheild.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... A quick synopsis is,...

Pull the drive,...
Pull the motor,....
Pull the transom assembly, change the gasket, 'n reassemble,....

Like Scott asks, Why,..??

If it's leakin' yer troubles are no doubt Much deeper,....

Thanks for the responses. Took it to a marina and said the transom seal needs to be replaced. Originally brought it in because after being out on the water and taking the plug out, more water than an allowable amount was coming out. Moreover, when putting it in the water you could notice a little bit leaking in. Guy at the marina said it would run $1000. What do you think?

Ayuh,.... Like I said, I think the problem will be much deeper, 'n much more expensive,....

Transom assemblies don't just loosen up, 'n leak,....
Transom seals virtually never go bad,....
But,....
The wood in transoms Rots,....
When the wood rots, the nuts are no longer tight, the seal leaks, the alignment of the gimbel to motor get's thrown off, the coupler then fails,....

You can do the repair, ei: replace the wood in the transom, Yerself, for 'bout the price you were quoted to change the seal,....
Hire it out, 'n you'll be lookin' at 3 to 5 times the price you were quoted,....

It'll be a real money maker for the guy,.... lots, 'n lotsa billable hours,...

Yes possible about the transom. But like mine. It was garaged kept. And the seal dry rotted. Causing a leak.
