OMC Cobra Trim Sender issue

I have an '87 OMC Cobra outdrive. I attempted to adjust the trim sender today. I have no room left on the trim sender slots to make the gauge read in the down position. I took the trim sender off. When I move the arm controlled by the spring, I can get the gauge to read all the way in the down position. Due to the fact that I can't adust the trim sender by using the sender slots, is my trim sender bad? Does the spring eventually wear and lose its tension? I know my boat well and don't necessarily need the trim sender to operate it, but I like things to work. Just the way I am.

I have the same problem with mine. When I removed it I noticed the plastic actuater arm is slightly bent. I just put it back on. I never look at the gauge anyway since I know better than to ever run my engine with the drive up.

If you do want to replace it, Sierra has 'em now. 'nutcase
