88 OMC Cobra.
Does anyone know if the electric motor can be removed from the pump assembly without doing all the disassembly of the pump unit that the book shows, prior to removing the motor?

My up tilt is sporatic, I can hear the motor / relay click but from time to time the drive won't lift until after several clicks of the switch. Figure the motor needs cleaned or replaced. Wiring is fine, at least up to the motor.

Re: OMC Cobra Trim Tilt?

Hey Bubba,

Thanks for the info. I can hear the relay click so I was thinking either the brushes or armiture in the motor? The relay would be easier to get to, for sure.

I've got two round relays, mounted on a metal plate on top of the engine (4.3 GM), guessing one is up and the other is down? But I can't tell which is which. Tried having the wife work the switch and using a screw driver for a sythiscope (sp) but almost sounds like they both activate. Any idea on how to tell which one might be bad?

Thx,
DR

Think you were right on the relay.
Thanks again for your response.

I hooked up a volt meter and was able to determine which relay was for up and which one was down, also confirmed in the manual (forgot about the wiring schmatic), my up relay has the blue/white wire. Only saw it once so still testing, but pretty sure I only had a couple volts on the up relay during one of the button pushes, like I said it's hit and miss.

Oh, wise words. Disconnect the pump motor at the connector when testing. Took me a couple times to figure out I didn't need the drive going up and down, up and down, I just need to watch the volt meter at the relay..... silly me.
