Hello, I'm working on an OMC Cobra lower unit, 1988 vintage with a 3.0. When running it on garden hose there is lot of water running from around the anode on the lower front of the lower unit. Is this normal, or is a seal blown out? I've worked on many Mercruiser units, but this is my first Cobra. I have not tried to remove the anode, because if this is normal, I will leave it alone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff.

When I run mine on muffs excess water spraying all over from around the muffs not to mention waterous exhaust shooting out from around the exhaust bellows make it impossible to determine a leak anywhere near the front anode. I can't imagine that area noe being dripping wet.

Howdy,

Most(or all) of the new exhaust bellows have "slits" in the lower part of the bellows. At least when you install it you put it in with the slits down. It allows water (and exhaust) to exit in that area and it's completely normal.

When my brother had the boat (and bought it new) he had thru hull exhaust.

a few years later when he had the engine rebuilt he also had a Y-pipe and Corsa Capts Call diverter valve system installed . The guy that installed it did not install an exhaust bellows. He ran it that way for maybe 10 years or so...

When I got it I bought a new exhaust bellows thinking that my brother just pulled the old one off and forgot to re-install it.....It never have one!

He never noticed! When I bought the new one I was shocked to see that it had about 1" slits in it the whole length! The slits go "down" so it will drain well I guess.

Anyway, when running it on muffs there's a lot of water all over there....right at the front anode.

Regards,

Rick

That is normal for the water to exit there.
