Hello Captains- I'm new to this board and have attempted a search on this issue but can find no response, even though similiar question has been asked before.
New install of 1993 Johnson 15 hp to 1989 OMC Control box-Overheat alarm sounds as soon as key switch is turned and continues after engine starts. Question -Does this mean a bad sender? short in box?improper wiring? (I'm new to this)fuel restriction (I've seen other posts re: fuel restriction detectors in v-6 but 15 hp?)Other issues not considered? hanks for your ideas and suggestions.

Tony.... Remove the tan wire from the horn. If the horn continues to sound, the horn itself is faulty.

If on the other hand, the alarm stops sounding when you remove that wire, that wire is grounded somewhere between the horn and the engine.

Also, that horn has a built in black ground wire. The TAN wire should be on the terminal closest to that black wire, with the purple wire being on the further terminal. If they are reversed, the horn will do weird things.

Your engine does not have a fuel restriction warning.

Thnak you for your prompt and thorough response. Your notation that the Tan wire is on the terminal nearest the ground wire was the key to my solution. Thank you for the assist.
Tony
