Now ready to put boat in water but have noticed that single lever OMC control box has gone stiff and feeling a bit vague, previous owner fitted new cables, I have mostly just been using warm up lever when running in tank,I sprayed in plenty of WD40 which seems to have made it feel more stiff and loss of feel, have I washed out any grease or oil?,should it be opened up and greased or oiled? previous owner has had difficulty getting box opened and has broken one screw on corner, although stiff it takes travel from idle to WOT, after getting go in boat I will replace but any suggestions would be great help! The box was only held on by 2 self tapping wood screws which allowed it to move, now bolted on. Re: OMC control box, stiff.

I would open up the box and disconnect the cables to see if it's a control box issue or a cable issue first.

Re: OMC control box, stiff.

On looking at it today I do notice some play in main shaft of lever which will be consistant with age and use, when the screws holding two halves are removed does it just come apart or does ignition switch etc need to come off first, thanks for help, JBD

check to see if it has a tention screw, alot of the omc, johnnyrudes, had a screw that put pressure on the spindles to keep the levers for moving on there on

Do not open the control box without the OMC manual or you may never get it back together properly.
