So I went to the lake this morning, taking a friend along that I have been asking for over a year. I get there and park to get the boat ready for launch, remove the transom straps, put in the plug, push the button to trim motor. Trim motor, trim, trim, trim, nothing. Push button on the control box, nothing. Turn the key, nothing. Damn, battery is dead. What the %#@@. Well, guess I will jump with trolling motor battery. Back the boat in the water, buddy parks the trailer. Boy I smell something that is baddddd. Oh well, Guess I will pull over to the bank and see what it is. HOLY CRAP, THE CONTROL BOX IS ON FIRE! Turn the motor off, disconnect battery, and proceed to take the control box apart right there on the water.

When I opened the control box, I could not see what was burning, so I hook everything back up. Start the motor and dont see anything getting hot or smoking. But on further inspection, I see that the potting on the warning buzzer is melted. Sure enough there is a black spot on the inside of the control box where the warning buzzer sits. What the heck happened? I have had this boat for over a year not and no problems at all, never. Now the warning buzzer catches on fire. Any ideas?

By the way, my buddy that I have been asking for so long now, was laughing his butt off the whole time this was going on. After we got back from a very good day of fishing, he thanked me for the entertainment.
