Re: OMC Coupler????

86' marked on it, rest of numbers can't get anything on.

Has to be cobra, king cobra came out when 90' ?

But i don't think it would have mattered with the splines cause they were the same i believe ?

When you got to know bye, whole family here maybe latter i can look into it more in depth.

It should have the part number on the mounting flange. I just found a NOS for a 7.5 I'm working on, and the part number is on it (986232).

The king came out in 88 i was mistaken.

That coupler is a 86 got to be a cobra.

Was supposed to be the first year.

But i have seen a 87 stringer with my own eyes.

Re: OMC Coupler????

Uh....My 1987 was a "King" (sic) Cobra. My brother bought the boat new in Las Vegas around APR of 1987.

I think the only one called King Cobra from 87-89 was the 460. After that they started calling everything "King" Cobra it seems......the 5.7L and above with the cone clutch drives was also called King Cobra from about 1990 on although they did still offer the "dogs" too....(wait a min.....they were all dogs!!;))

It's good you're swapping it out for a Merc!

If you're lucky you'll be able to sell all the OMC stuff on EBAY or some other site...

I have sold most of the OMC King Kobra so far. All I have left is the drive, props, trim cyls/pump and the steering stuff....I have been very lucky to have sold most of the other stuff!

Cheers,

Rick

I would guess that what you saw was an 1987 boat with a Stringer in it........It's not uncommon for boat makers to use last years engine/drive combo because they got a super deal from the eng/drive manufacturer for models that were not all sold.........
