Is there any benefit of scalloping a piston with out cutting the block the same ??
This would be for mild tuned V4 crosflow. No all out race motor.
I have read a lot about the subject and i understand what it does but is it beneficial to cut the piston without cutting the block ???

Unless the scalloped area of the piston is able to see the transfer passage, there is no gain.Yes the piston will be lighter, but it will also be weaker, its expansion as it heats up will be different, and with a chunk of the skirt missing, possibly its stability in the bore compromised The crank might need to be rebalanced too

Thanks Jimmbo, That is the info i needed. I have eventually got everything ready for my build. All i want is a strong mid range (not high rpm) motor. I just wasn't sure if it had any benefit.
My build is going to be better than factory (Hopefully) All casting marks removed, case/gaskets matched and flowed.
I want the motor to be strong and reliable. I am totally open to ALL input for you guys. I have only been learning about these motors for the last year or so.
The info you guys have in your years of working with these motors is priceless, So if i suggest something and its wrong please advise me. .
I am not a know it all. I welcome feed back and guidance for the many members on this forum.
I am looking forward to this build and hope to document it on here.
Cheers Andy
