OMC Drive n Engine swap-out with Merc 4.3 w Alpha Gen 2

Friend of mine is going to do a swap out. <br /><br />Hull is a mid-late 80 Seaswirl Cordova 230. OMC engine and drive are gone, only the transom plate is still on it. Used Merc engine, drive and transom assy are already on hand. Much help will be needed here.<br /><br />1. Will the transom plates fit existing nount holes? What are the location of the new holes, is there a drawing available to show this?<br /><br />2. Anything pointers we should look out for?<br /><br />Thanks.

If the old drive was a Cobra, then the changeover will be very easy. The cutout in the transom is the same size and location. If you had the old stringer drive, you need to have the transom rebuilt.

Here's a link to a Mercruiser install manual that will help out in your initial setup.<br />It's 3.0 MB's in size, so I can't leave it on my site long as they will want to charge be for being over my limit, so if you download it to your computer I can take it back off.<br />Just RIGHT CLICK the link below and choose "Save Target As" and save it to your desktop.

If it's a stringer drive, you have a big rubber bellows around the transom shield on the back of the boat.<br />Here is a picture of a drive off a stinger<br /><br />

Thanks for the pics, speaks volumes. Its a Cobra for sure.<br /><br />Gotten the nuts off, next to separate the assy from the transom, probably held in place by the sealants.<br /><br />Thanks again Don.
