Hello group,
Need your help please. My 1990 OMC 2.3L has been converted to electronic ignition using a Ford Motorcraft automotive electronic ignition. Now the Electronic Shift Assist (ESA) is inoperative. My boat is idling and shifting at 1400 RPM.
#1-Would it be possible to install the Pertronix circuit listed on Stuart Hastings website to make the ESA work again?

#2-Will a shift assist switch fix the problem?

#3 Can I try to adjust the carb idle stop and lower the RPM's and not worry about it.

Thank you very much for your help I am at a stopping point. Ed:confused:

Re: OMC ESA not working with electronic Ignition

either fix #1 or #2 should work, but that CDI brand shift assist module is a much better and easier solution than the diode fix.
Automotive distributor on a boat is an explosion hazard, so I would also look for a marine distributor with the SAEJ1171 rating on it.
#3 not a good idea
