Sorry for all the new threads today guys, but i noticed that the boot that connects the exhaust to the lower unit has a large hole in it. There is very little exhaust comming out of the prop at all. Is this a big problem? What is the part called? it's like an accordian tube.

Re: OMC exhaust?

Most of your exhaust is actually coming out a port near your transom when you are at idle or on the muffs. The exhaust bellows actually is supposed to have some small holes in it. A larger hole will still probably not cause much of a problem. You can change it at your leisure.

Great bruce, thanks for all your help today so far. The tube must have gotten dry rotted or something because it has a 2-3 inch hole in it.

Re: OMC exhaust?

That's your exhaust bellows.

It's not a problem........... Mine ran for about 10 years with NO exhaust bellows with no apparent problems...

If the exhaust bellows is old and cracked etc.....the drive bellows might be bad....THAT IS A VERY BIG PROBLEM. You should remove the drive and check the alignment and U-joints before running it if it hasn't been done in the last year or so.

The oil should be replaced once a year or so too.

It's appropriate to start a new thread for a new/different problem.

I assume we're talking about a Cobra. See my reply on your other thread. You need a manual and that Hastings article to understand what you need to know about the Cobra.

Regards,

Rick
