OMC Gasket Sealer on Impeller Pump housing seal?

My repair manual says I should use omc gasket sealer on both sides of the impeller plate. I can understand putting it on the gasket side but should I put it on the side that the seal from the plastic pump housing sits on? It looks like the boat shop put red rtv on the seal itself. I would have thought the seal would sit right on the plate, but now I'd feel better hearing from someone who knows..<br /><br />thanks in advance for your feedback..

Omc puts gasket sealing compound on everything Nuts, bolts, orings I heard that some Omc guys put that(s***) in there coffee. There reason for all the gasket sealing compound is that Omc couldn't design any thing to seal without it. Go wild put it on everything.
