omc impeller location

Howdy folks , I just got this boat and ran it with muffs in the driveway and it worked fine, but then put in the lake , taxied at 5, and got out , gave er the gun and it started clattering like a diesel, meaning, extremely hot, turned around and coasted to dock, I know that sound, I'm sure the impeller is gone and water pump isn't where it usually is. Can anyone send me an exploded view of a 2.5 omc stern drive so I can avoid going on a wild goose chase , I would be so grateful to get a direction to go. I suspect it's half way to the prop, am I correct?

You should post more info like your model/year. Since you have a 2.5, you have a stringer drive and yes, it's in the drive.

Here is the info 1983 OMC Model 982740 Serial# J290585

You have to remove the drive , seperate the upper and lower units. The impeller is in the bottom of the upper unit.

exaploded views and part numbers here . Its a fairly easy job.
