OMC Johnson are they out of business?

I was looking into getting a older OMC outboard, but was told that I won't be able to get parts for it because they went out of business/bankrupt, chapter 11, is this true and will I be able to get these parts.??? I would appreacate any information anyone can give.... Thanks... Andy

OMC,Johnson,was bought out by Bombardier,who still will make Johnson engines. Call the local dealer for parts availability, plus there are places on the web for parts

The name "OMC" (Outboard Marine Corp.) is gone. Evinrude and Johnson brand names are now owned by Bombardier and are being produced as Bombardier Recreational Products. Evinrudes are the technology motors (Ficht and 4 strokes) and Johnsons are traditional 2 stroke carb motors.<br /><br />Parts don't seem to be a problem. How old of a motor are you looking at? What horsepower?<br /><br />Good luck!

Dang! I never thought I would disagree with DHadley on anything!<br /><br />I believe that Bomb. has designated the 'Rudes as high-tech, large 2 strokes and Johnson as low tech, smaller 2 strokes and 4 strokes. All of the 4 strokes (up to 70hp, made by Suzuki) are Johnsons now.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB
