OMC King Cobra ('89) grinding into reverse

I have '89 OMC King Cobra with 460 (Ford) engine and when shifting into reverse, it is slow, sometimes it takes more attempts to engage the reverse.<br /><br />She was ok a couple months ago. And also, shifting into forward is without any problems. Only reverse takes some time and effort.<br /><br />It is not hard to shift, it just takes time and some grinding.<br /><br />What should I check?<br />Thanks in advance for any help, guys.<br />Lou

check your shift cable adjustment first. also make sure you have the updated (red) transom shift cable.
