Dear friends, I have a 1996-1998 Johnson 130Hp V-4 Looper Outboard - My starter is dying - It has an OMC pn 585060 - IE it is the late style 10 tooth starter with the plastic cap on the end of the drive. Question: will the earlier starters work ? IE the ones with the large nut on the end of the drive ?

Also - any experiance with the ASIAN knockoffs out there - IE Unipoint OR ARCO ?

Please advise - THanks!

Either style will work as long as its designed for the V4 looper.

I have Arcos on several motors. No problems. Never used Unipoint.

All the 90 degree V4 loopers from 1985 on up use the same starter, part number 586285.

Have you thought about having a local starter repair shop helping you out?
DHP
