Can anyone tell me if there are two or three lube points on the outdrive? I see the dipstick on top and I assume that it is gear lube. I see some plugs on the side. I think you take a tube of grease and put it through the bottom hole until you squeeze it out the top. Pics would be wonderful. Also, does anyone know where to find a manual?

Re: OMC lubrication points question

Nope. If u fill the drive from the bottom plug you'll destroy it as the gear lube won't get to the top half. The bottom plug is for draining the drive only. The drive is filled from the middle plug on the starboard side using a hand pump. There is a grease fittting on the right side for the gimbal bearing. On the left side there is a plug for draining the l/u water pump when u winterize. Do not even think about removing the plug from behind the OMC emblem on the left side. If u do you'll be sorry, as the nut behind the plug with fall into the lower unit. Just leave it alone. Manuels can be found on ebay. As someone said, Clymer & Seloc are good for knee pads, that's all.

View attachment 106268cobra drain 1.jpgcobra drain 2.jpgThe main thing is to make sure you get the correct amount of fluid in the drive. It is easy to underfill them if you do not do
it correctly. You drain from the bottom most hole, with the dipstick out. Then replace the drain plug, and rest the dipstick in the hole in the top cover, but do not screw in yet. Then you screw in your gear oil pump to the hole marked in the pic, near the joint between the upper and lower gear housings. You pump in gear oil (OMC Hi Vis, or Merc Hi Performance Gear lube) until you get 2 qts in, and then screw in the dipstick. Then quickly remove the gear oil pump and replace the fill plug. Let it sit for a while and re-check the level with the dipstick. Sometimes you have to add a bit to top it off and you can do this through the dipstick hole. I have been doing it this way (OMC lists this way in their manuals) for about 10 years and never had a problem. It's a good idea to replace the fiber gaskets on the drain, fill and dipstick plugs.
