omc no start,no spark

86 sunbird with a omc 4 cyl no start no spark...had the boat out 2 mos ago,ran great.rolls over great,getting fuel to the carb.pulled #1 plug and grounded out to block to check spark...none pulled coil wire off,tried the same,same luck,used a test light...clamped to ground on battery and touched -side of the coil,solid light when cranking.removed two gray wires(tach and ESA) re-installed ground...no luck.ran hot wire from + on battery to the + on the coil...same as all before.pulled dist cap and cleaned points,touching good while rolling over...nothing...i used a screwdriver to spread points to get sandpaper in and got a spark there lol.masters help me please:confused:...new points and condenser or go electronic?

sounds like the coil to me unless you points were not breaking with out the screwdriver. your test light should have changed when you were on the coil and rolling it over. If the points are closed and working you would not get a spark when you shorted the points to ground. opps was changing this when don posted. do what he says.

You need a new set of $5 points, not a new $50 coil.
There are more good coils replaced by newbe's because of no spark than any other item. Yet it's seldom a coil. Usually just glazed over OLD points.

i was going to replace the points and plugs today,i appreciate the responses.:D
