Re: OMC not shifting into gear.

The foolproof way is to fill it as per the manual.I have always filled mine ,from the bottom adding the amount recomended in the manual,Check the dipstick and it is perfect. It can give you false readings if your relying only on the dipstick for reference.Put in the recommended amount(probably from any hole ya want)and you can't go wrong.
What manuel do u have that says to fill a Cobra from the bottom plug? Sorry, but you're giving out wrong information. If someone that doesn't know any better reads your post & follows your advice & fills there Cobra from "any hole ya want" there's a good chance that there drive will be toast in no time. I have the original OMC shop manuel sitting right in front of me. It states to fill the drive from the middle plug on the starboard side of the vertical drive. Period.

Here is what the manual says. This is the factory manual.

Not sure why Shimano is so adamant about doing it the WRONG way!

Going to change my gear oil and was looking at the pics, from the manual, how do you fill it through a hole lower than the dip-stick, do you push the oil up to the top?

Your missing the point. All I said was if you put in the required amount of lube as per the manual.,It will be full.Yes the manual states to fill from the middle hole .it also states to add 18?? cc of oil, and if you put that much in it will be OK.Not trying to mislead anyone.

Why is there never a wall nearby when you need to bang your head against it? LOL :)

Re: OMC not shifting into gear.

Well I just got back from picking up the used outdrive. It still had the old gear lube in it which was old and dark, but no water. I checked the gears and shifting and all seems well. I just need to buy new mounting gaskets and a new water pump kit. I have a few questions. What is a good place online to order the parts I need? What type of grease for the input shaft and u joints?
Thanks for all the help so far guys.
