Hi Dale,
Depends on a few things I suppose.
The people who are familiar with them and can scrounge parts on ebay, craigslist, junk yards and are also able to cannibalize parts from wrecked boats and have all the tools, experience and time to work on them, won't have a lot of problems.....(until they try to find a "show-stopper" part that no longer exists

)
For most of the rest of us, the fact that OMC is a company that went out of business more than 10 years ago is a show stopper all by itself unless the engine/drive is an OMC SX (which is essentially a Volvo Penta) In that case, it has to be around a 1996 model or so (or newer).
In that case, they're not all that much cheaper than a comparable Volvo or Mercruiser of the same year.
Most people here that work in the business, will probably tell you to steer clear of anything OMC.....And some of the techs that I have talked to don't want to work on them at all.
If you have to have an I/O, I would suggest that you find a boat with a Volvo or Mercruiser system.
Good luck,
Rick
