Hello
I am having a problem with my boat running get in the water get past the boowies and get up to plain then it dies out. Let it set for a minit and then it starts back up and starts to shake and jar. Pulled the whole back unit off (6 5/8 bolts) and the top cap looked down in it and found metal. Ordered a manual on it and started to pull lower unit off but did not want to go to far with it. It is an omc outdrive with a 4.3L engine the engine seem to be fine. How much of a problem is it to pull the lower unit off and is there any hidden parts that may fall out when I do this. Am I getting in over my head? I feel comfortable doing it but really don't know what I am getting into. thanks for your time!

over your head is a relative term-special tools will be needed-this is not a job for a shade tree mechanic.

It is not really hard if your use to working on mechanical stuff and can read the book. Do not rush it, follow ever step no matter how unimportant it may seem. Read the steps first before removing they will give you an idea of what to look for, things like shift cables
Most important do not over tighten anything I have found with OMC it is better if you are one of these guys who is heaving with a wrench, to use a torque wrench.

Have fun with it.
Alex

Is it a Cobra or 800 series ? What Year ?

I would say you will need special tools, and the Manual step by step..Not meant for a Shade tree..no way
