OMC Outdrive Question

Hello, I have a 1988 OMC 3L with an OMC Outdrive, I have a chance to pick up another Outdrive very cheap, the only thing known about this Outdrive is that it came off a 2.3L Model # 984540 Ser. # 1046680 or 6 i want to know if this unit would be compatible with my engine. Anybody have any ideas where i can cross reference? Thanks

the best place to see all the various ratios is in the SELOC manual for OMC Cobras. There's a great chart for every year and model with upper and lower gears.

I'm pretty sure 2.3 and 3.0 are not even close.
2.3 drive has a unique ratio for an engine that screams to 5400 rpm, unlike your pushrod 3.0 that revs much lower.
