OMC Product Replacements?

I'm getting ready to tackle a project on my 9.9 Evinrude 4-stoke ... and in reading the service manual, there are several OMC products mentioned ... specifically:

OMC Cleaning Solvent (to clean the crankshaft and flywheel tapers)
OMC Gasket Sealing Compound (to coat the flywheel threads before installing the nut)
OMC Nut Lock (to be applied to bolt threads)
OMC Screw Lock (to be applied to screw threads)
OMC Black Neoprene Dip (to be applied to the solenoid and starter connections)

Are there really two different products ... "Screw Lock" and "Nut Lock"?

Any suggestions for more easily obtainable (and probably cheaper) substitutions ... or are the "genuine OMC" products really better?

----"Brake Cleaner" or "Electrical Cleaner"
-----Use whatever gasket sealer turns you on. Personally I love the OMC Gasket sealer.
Locktite
Locktite
Liquid 'Lectric Tape

Yes there are a bazillion different grades of Locktite. Generically, Blue Screwlock and red for the nuts. The difference is the locking strength.

It's all available from your friendly auto parts store, except the OMC Gasket sealant.

Would these work?

Loctite 242 (blue) for screws ...
Loctite 271 (red) for nuts ...

Probably a dumb question, but which for bolts?

I've used the blue (medium) type before, but have always been reluctant to try the red (high) since the Loctite documentation says it normally requires heat to remove!

Have to give you a generic answer. Normally, the higher strength is used on nuts because there is such a short length of thread. But put it on a long thread and you very well might need heat to remove it. Nuts will come off just fine.

You just have to use reason and decide how important it is that the fastener not come loose. I used to manufacture steering systems and we used a LOT of high strength Locktite, because it was a matter of life and death. I bought that stuff by the case, 3 cases at a time.

OK ... I've done some internet research, and came up with the following list of alternatives for OMC Gasket Sealing Compound:

Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket Sealant Liquid #80019
Loctite Aviation Gasket Sealant #30517
Quicksilver Perfect Seal #92-34227-1

Anyone have a preference?
