hi all.
Currently got some concerns about the propeller locking mechanism on my omc stringer stern drive.
currently the prop is only prevented from escaping at speed by a steel pin which is pushed through the prop and drive shaft.
This is all well and good but ths pin is only prevented from pinging out and into the eye of some unsuspecting crab by a moulded bakelite cap which is itself held in by a split pin.
If this cap was to crack or become damaged on something the prop would soon fly off.

Any ideas?
cheers

Aaaah,.. Nope.... Not til you used Reverse or Chopped the throttle....
Thrust Pushes the prop Onto the drive...

Fear not, badman, it has never been a problem.

That pin is designed to shear off if your prop strikes an object like a rock. If it is the correct pin, it will give it's life to safe that of the lower unit gears and propshaft.
Most folks with that setup carry spare pins, plastic cap and cotter pins on board
