I bought a Rectifier from seiler marine for my 1971 60 HP Evinrude. While it looks the same the wires are two yellow and one red. my original rectifier has one red , one yellow and one yellow with a grey stripe . How do i go about connecting these ? or does it really matter in the yellow wires case . I have an original factory service manual and it just says the color of the wires.

Thanks ED

Eddy..... The rectifiers that have two yellow wires and one red instead of the original yellow. yellow/gray, red, usually come with a note that states that (in effect) it doesn't matter which yellow wire goes where (connect either yellow wire to the yellow/gray stator wire. However, if that bothers you, compare the new rectifer with the old one, pertaining to which side the yellow/gray wire is on, and mark the new rectifier accordingly.

Re: OMC Rectifier wires ( Confused)

I just replaced the rectifier on my '90 9.9hp Evinrude -- has the 4-5 amp model, which has four wires (one red, three yellow). As Joe points out, there was a note with the part (Sierra)indicating the yellow wires are interchangeable with the striped ones. (I had the same question after checking the diagram in my manual.) My charging system works fine with the new rectifier.
