OMC REMOTE 1992

HELP <br />The tilt/trim switch on my remote throttle handle is loose, pushes into handle when used.<br />I have studied it carefully, removed cover around controll body but cant seem to figure out how to get into the handle to tighten it up.? <br />1992 OMC REMOTE FOR EVINRUDE V/4

You need to remove the handle itself, if you did not do so. You will find the screws to tighten it, once you have it off.

rickdb1boat<br /><br />I went back into the remote last night<br />there is an allen key bolt on the inside<br />of the handle at the back of the remote<br />it looks like it might hold the handle on<br />or may be just the metal hub<br />with a star like inner spoke (key) sort of<br />thing . how does this piece come off .Do <br />you need a special tool. or am i going about it wrong.I have the allen key bolt out and the cover off, the tensioner off ?

No Sleep,<br />Lay the control unit down on it's side and place 2 blocks of wood under both sides of the control handle to support it.(2 X 4 pieces will work) (This is done with the remote control unit still together).<br />Loosen up the Hex Screw in the center of the control lever 3 turns. Take a center punch and place it in the center of the now loosened Hex head screw. Give it a few small raps with a hammer and the handle should pop free of the splines. Remove the screw all the way and remove the handle.<br /><br />EDIT: You should still be able to do this with the cover partially apart. Just put the allen screw back in until it bottoms out and then back it out 3 turns and follow instructions above.

Don't remove the allen screw completely, but rather, back it out about 3/4 of the way. Then gently tap the screw head with a screwdriver to drive the handle off the other side. Then remove allen screw completely.<br /><br />Good luck.
