Replace immed. or you may end up with hydrolock and bust something in the engine.

Re: omc riser flap

The flapper is there to protect against backwash possibly getting into the engine while at low idle or shut down.

Ignoring it may or may not have any ramifications... if you're lucky. It could also work loose and cause an exhaust obstruction.

Replace it while you have it apart.

Re: omc riser flap

got parts in, well some of them [ordered gasket set, only got manifold . place i got it from is sending the rest. The big ? is how does this flapper thing work ? my book shows no spring to hold it shut it just hangs in and flaps. I understand exhaust will keep it open, But what closes the darn thing? Also while I'am here i want to ck for the [rust vs shine] were i see lots of people get water back in the head. DO i ck at the end cap or elbow for this?

still wonder how the flapper works. Does it shut all the water out or prevent a sudden rush of water from coming in /my new one does not still vary well.

It's not a perfect seal... it keeps the rush out. The flapper should only swing 180* I believe.
